The Cumberland hotel

The 1,019-bedroom, four-star deluxe Cumberland hotel in Marble Arch, London, has been put on the market for an undisclosed sum.

It is the second major hotel to be put up for sale within two weeks by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott hotel – just a few hundred yards along Park Lane away from the Cumberland - was put on the market at the beginning of the month for up to £600m.

RBS are also selling a portfolio of four Hilton properties – the London Hyde Park, Avisford Park in Arundel, Bracknell and Maidstone – for £67m.

The beleaguered bank is selling the hotels as part of its decision to get rid of its non-core assets.

The Cumberland, which is home to celebrity chef Gary Rhodes’ Michelin-starred Rhodes W1 and his Rhodes W1 Brasserie, is operated by Guoman Hotels. The firm is the luxury brand of hotels operated by Guoman Hotel Management, which also operates Thistle Hotels.

The Cumberland is being marketing by CBRE Hotels, which is handling all the hotels being sold by RBS, including the four Hilton properties.
