First-time buyers Roger and Pauline Brentnall from Midsomer Norton in Somerset are the new owners of the Countryman freehouse in Samford Courtenay, West Devon.
The business – which is 70% food led – sits in nearly three acres of land on the northern fringes of Dartmoor along the A3072 Okehampton to Crediton road. The grounds include a large car park, private gardens and a paddock.
The village, with its cob and thatch cottages, is one of the prettiest in Devon and was the site of the 1549 Prayer Book Rebellion.
The Countryman can seat 110 diners in the bar and restaurant, which includes huge circular lights believed to have come from the original Queen Elizabeth liner.
The property also has a four-bedroom owners’ accommodation.
The Exeter office of Christie + Co sold the freehold for close to the asking price of £495,000 on behalf of John and Mary Bastin, who have bought a smaller business.
