The Council for Hospitality Management Education (CHME), the body for universities and colleges which offer hospitality management courses, has made a number of changes to its executive board.

Donald Sloan, the head of the Department of Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Management at Oxford Brookes University, replaces Professor Stephen Ball as chairman.

The two new vice chairs are Dr Angela Roper, senior lecturer in hospitality management at the University of Surrey and Isabell Hodgson, head of the Centre for Hospitality Management and Retailing at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Sloan welcomed the opportunity to chair CHME, saying the body has a “hugely important” role to play within the hospitality industry.

“As educators our role goes beyond preparing graduates who can operate effectively in this dynamic environment,” he said.

“Whether it is the threat of climate change or our national skills shortage, we must be at the heart of debates, helping to shape opinions and influence practice.”
