Food Radio is to make its inaugural broadcast this Sunday (20 May) on the Classic Gold network and mark the first time dedicated food programming will be heard on UK commercial radio airwaves.
As well as being broadcast over digital radio listeners will be able to download a podcast of Food Radio content at www.foodradio.com. The first broadcast will discuss food miles, sustainability and local provenance.
Food Radio’s editorial director will be Michael Bukht, famous for his stint as presenter of the Food and Drink programme on BBC2, who was also responsible for launching London’s Capital Radio and Classic FM.
Shows will be presented by ITV’s London Tonight host Katie Derham and feature contributions from, among others, fellow Food and Drink veteran and wine expert Jilly Goolden.
The venture says it is aiming to offer an interactive radio service mixing broadcasts with online content including a directory of local suppliers.
Future broadcasts will cover healthy eating, supermarkets and specialist food retailers.
BBC Radio 4 continues to broadcast the Food Programme every Sunday from 12.30pm to 1pm.
