A US waitress has been fired from her job at a pizza restaurant for calling diners cheap on social networking site Facebook after they left her a low tip.
Ashley Johnson, from North Carolina, says the customers, who stayed for three hours, kept her at work an hour after she was supposed to finish her shift at Brixx Pizza but only left her a tip of $5 (£3.45).
According to The Charlotte Observer, she complained about the diners on Facebook, calling them cheap and mentioning the restaurant by name.
Johnson was then fired a few days later after Brixx managers told her she had violated a company policy banning employees from speaking disparagingly about customers and casting the restaurant in a bad light on a social networking website.
"We definitely care what people say about our customers," said Jeff Van Dyke, one of the partners who run the restaurant.
Johnson said she apologised to the restaurant and was now looking for a new job.
"It was my own fault," she said. "I did write the message. But I had no idea that something that, to me is very small, could result in me losing my job.
“I lost my job because of a Facebook status.”
