New World restaurant in London's Chinatown shut down after suspected mice infestation

Food hygiene inspectors have closed down popular Cantonese restaurant New World in London's Gerrard Square following a suspected mice infestation.

Inspectors from Westminster City Council visited the premises last Thursday and immediately took action to close the restaurant in London's Chinatown.

A notice placed in the window of the eaterie said it had been closed because of a "serious infestation of mice and poor maintenance of routine cleaning, resulting in a significant risk of food contamination".

A council spokesperson told Caterer and Hotelkeeper that a court hearing had been set for 10 August at which point a judge would decide whether the action by inspectors was justified and what, if any, remedial action will be required to reopen the restaurant.
