Details emerge of 18-month revamp at Four Seasons Park Lane

The five-star Four Seasons hotel on Park Lane has unveiled details of its 18-month refurbishment programme.

Overseen by design consultancy ReardonSmith, which is also redesigning the Savoy, the redevelopment has seen the building entirely stripped back to its structure. It will undergo substantial internal re-planning and extensions to “extract greater value for the landlocked island site”.

The north-west part of the building will be extended by two floors, as well as a rooftop extension which will house a luxury spa and fitness suite overlooking the capital.

At ground level, a black granite porch will project the hotel outwards into the surrounding lanes, while the double height atrium of the lobby will be restored and a new grand staircase introduced.

Afternoon tea will continue to be served in new Tea Lounge areas that will span the atrium and 23 metre gallery space, behind which there will be a new wine bar.

The restaurant will be located at the north-west end of the building and will have a glass-walled extension overlooking the hotel’s private garden.

The eight floors of guestrooms are all being re-configured, including 53 rooms with a large wet room rather than a bathroom with tub. There will be 20 conservatory suites and guestrooms with four of the suites overlooking Hyde Park, each with a garden terrace.

James Twomey, ReardonSmith project director, said: “When the hotel re-opens, it will once again be one of the finest examples of a truly world-class hotel – with very chic and unique interiors and a building infrastructure to support impeccable service.”

The hotel closed in September last year to undergo the 18-month refurbishment.
