The Cavendish hotel in London is the first to have been awarded a Gold Accreditation by Green Tourism for London by the London Development Agency (LDA).
The Green Tourism for London scheme was launched in 2007 and aims to improve the environmental performance and green credentials of hotels, guesthouses, venues and attractions across the capital.
The awards, which are given after independent assessment, allow visitors to judge the green potential of businesses, and takes into account factors including, traditional energy and resource management.
The Cavendish has introduced a variety of energy saving actions including: energy efficient lighting; lighting controls; condensing boilers; and aerated shower heads and in-house water bottling.
Fairtrade products are also used throughout the hotel, while the restaurant’s menu features fish from sustainable sources and local produce, where possible.
Ciaran Fahy, general manager at the Cavendish hotel, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the Gold Accreditation as recognition for the time and effort we have put into our environmental policies.
“The Cavendish is committed to reducing its impact on the environment. Our Green Team operates throughout the hotel to ensure that every team member is working towards building a sustainable future.”
