Chinese takeaway forced to close after staff arrested

A Chinese takeaway in Wales had to close up after immigration officers arrested all but one of the staff during a raid.

The officers from the UK Border Agency swooped on the China Wok in Llanybydder, Carmarthenshire following a tip off.

All exits were sealed to stop staff escaping and an examination of papers showed that five out of the six staff were failed asylum seekers who had failed to leave the country as ordered.

The takeaway was then forced to close up due to lack of staff.

Commenting on the case UKBA regional director Jane Farleigh said: "When someone's asylum claim is turned down they should leave the UK, not ignore the law and get an illegal job.

"I would urge businesses to make sure they take the correct action to check their employee's immigration status."
