London hotels saw revenue per available room (revpar) drop by 2% in the week ending 27 December 2008, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.
Revpar fell to £45.93, down from £46.85 during the equivalent week of 2007.
Occupancy decreased by 4.6 percentage points to 47.4% while average daily room rate increased by 7.4% to £96.81 compared with £90.15 in the corresponding week of 2007.
In the same week, regional hotels suffered a 17.8% slump in revpar (to £20.79) thanks to a 5.1 percentage point fall in occupancy and a 5.4% decline in daily rate.
The week’s featured city, Birmingham, bucked the trend by posting a 10.1% boost to revpar to £14.12 on the back of a 6.2% rise in room rate and a one percentage point increase in occupancy.
Revpar for the 28 days to 27 December dropped by 1.5% in London and by 6.7% in the provinces, to £86.21 and £39.37 respectively.
