Indigo opens third UK hotel in Glasgow

Monday 18 April 2011 17:25

Indigo, the boutique hotel brand from InterContinental Hotels (IHG), has opened its third UK property in Glasgow.

The 95-bedroom hotel is situated on Waterloo Street, in the heart of the financial district and within walking distance of the main shopping area. It has one restaurant, the Limelight Bar and Grill.

Owned by Chardon Management, the hotel has been converted from an industrial office building. It was originally Glasgow's first power station and was also used to illuminate the Glasgow School of Art.

With each hotel having a unique character, IHG says brand standards don't dictate the number or size of rooms, making it ideally suited to conversion properties.

Kirk Kinsell, president of IHG Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "Hotel Indigo Glasgow offers guests the best of both worlds - the individuality and unique design of a boutique hotel with the reassurance and benefits of a big hotel group.

"It is right in the heart of Glasgow which means it's perfectly placed for people who want to explore the sights and sounds of the city."

Hotel Indigo has two existing properties in the UK, both of which are in London. The Indigo Paddington opened in 2009 and the Indigo Tower Hill opened in 2010.

Another property in Liverpool, with 151 bedrooms, is scheduled to open in June 2011, followed by hotels in Edinburgh, Birmingham and Newcastle, all scheduled to open in 2012.

The Hotel Indigo brand was launched in the USA in 2004 making it IHG's youngest brand. There are 38 Hotel Indigo hotels around the world and 62 in development, which will open in the next two to three years.
