Mitchells & Butlers sales still ahead despite weather and football
Pub and restaurant chain Mitchells & Butlers still saw its like-for-like sales edge ahead for the 14 weeks to 14 July, despite persistent poor weather and the negative effects of Euro 2012.
Like-for-likes over the period grew by just 0.4%, although there were brighter spots including the five-day Diamond Jubilee weekend, during which like-for-like sales improved by 4%.
Like-for-like sales growth for the 42 weeks of the year to date now stands at +1.9%.
M&B also indicated that the roll-out of free Wi-Fi across the whole of its estate was now more than 50% complete.
And it said it was still treating the process to appoint a new chief executive as a priority.
Bob Ivell, executive chairman, said: "Despite the continuing poor weather and challenging economic conditions, we are continuing to deliver a resilient operating performance. Our business transformation programme is progressing well and we are increasing the focus on guest service in all parts of the business."
