Rib Room to reopen with new look and new chef

The legendary Rib Room bar and restaurant at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London, is to be relaunched in October, following a major refurbishment and with a new head chef at the helm.

While the restaurant will receive a total refresh from interior designer Martin Brudnizki, the kitchen will be headed by Ian Rudge, formerly of the one-Michelin-starred Northcote Manor in Lancashire.

The new look will include the addition of a cocktail bar and two private dining rooms to seat eight and ten people. In total, there will be 132 covers, plus a further 50 in the bar.

Key features will include dark oak hardwood timbers, bespoke emerald green carpeting, sandstone walls featuring custom-designed wallpaper, and antique mirrors.

Intending to remain true to the classic British food for which the restaurant is famed, the new menu will take a contemporary approach to the presentation of the Rib Room's signature dishes including its Aberdeen Angus rib of beef, sourced from the Buccleuch estate.

New to the restaurant will be a wine list presented on iPads, featuring tasting notes by the Rib Room's new sommelier Louise Gordon.

Michele Caggianese, the Rib Room's restaurant and bar manager - recently named UK Restaurant manager of the Year - said everyone involved in the new look Rib Room was excited by its reopening. "With 50 years of exceptional fine dining and world-class service in our wake, we are committed to showing our guests why we deserve our place in gastronomic history," she said.

The Rib Room opened 50 years ago, at the same time as the hotel - then known as the Carlton Tower - was launched.
