Entrepreneur Peter de Savary, founder of the St James’s and Carnegie Club retreats for the well-heeled, has sold Devon coaching inn the White Hart hotel off a £1.5m guide price.
His company, Havana West, acquired the three-star White Hart hotel when it bought nearby Bovey Castle. It sold Bovey Castle to Hilwood Resorts and Hotels in the autumn of 2006 for £26.4m.
The Grade II-listed White Hart hotel in Moretonhampstead, which offers 28 en-suite bedrooms, a 46-seat restaurant and a 60-seat function room, will become the flagship of a portfolio of West Country properties that will be built up by new owner, Hart Inns.
Property agent Bettesworths negotiated the sale.
The new company is headed up by Andrew Younger and Gary Tubb, who both have experience in the hotel and catering sectors.
Havana West, meanwhile, is refurbishing the Cary Arms at Babbacombe Beach in Torquay, which it acquired in 2006. It will reopen next year as The Inn on the Beach. Havana West also owns the Sandy Park Inn near Chagford in Devon.
De Savary recently sold the Royal Golf hotel at Dornoch in the Highlands for £5m.
