Fast-food code cuts down on street litter

Friday 25 June 2004 16:03
The Government has hailed the pilot of the fast-food code of practice as a huge success after it led to a 20% reduction in fast-food street litter.

Launched last October in partnership with the fast-food industry and local authorities, the code encouraged operators to put up more anti-litter advertising, supply more bins and keep areas outside their establishments clean.

The 20% fall in litter comes despite rubbish increasing by 12% on UK streets in the past year.
