Ronan set to run chesford

Garrett Ronan has been named general manager of Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, which has just been acquired by Principal Hotels for £7m.

Mr Ronan, 26, has been recruited from Swallow Hotels after nearly two years as deputy general manager of the St John's Hotel in Solihull.

Over the next 12 months he will oversee a £1m project to add 20 bedrooms and a leisure centre at Chesford Grange.

Borresen heads for Antigua sun

Paal Borresen, general manager of the Copthorne Gatwick and the company's regional general manager for the south, is leaving to run the Carlisle Bay Club in Antigua.

Mr Borresen, who takes up the reins in October, will be succeeded at the Copthorne Gatwick by Bill Clifford, general manager of the nearby Copthorne Effingham Park for the past six years.

Broadhead back at claridge's

David Broadhead, manager at the Savoy for the past year, has returned to Claridge's as manager, following the sudden departure for family reasons of Michael Duncan, who joined in May.

For Mr Broadhead, who was a Savoy Group trainee 20 years ago, the move represents a return to familiar territory. He was banqueting and conference manager at the hotel between 1990 and 1994.

Hamilton leaves in choice shake-up

Phoebe Hamilton, European director of public relations for Choice Hotels International, has left as a result of the franchise giant's recent corporate restructuring.

Ms Hamilton, who has become associate director at travel and tourism PR consultancy NGA, told Caterer: "As part of a restructuring of Choice's European operation my role was made redundant and the focus of my activities was to be directed purely at the UK."

Nancy Downing, UK director of sales and marketing, and Paul Verhaak, vice-president of European sales and marketing, have also left the company. John Burley from Friendly Hotels - Choice's UK franchise partner - is heading up its marketing department on a six-month secondment.

Griffin takes up new BTA post

Jonathan Griffin has been appointed to the new position of commercial services director for the British Tourist Authority and English Tourist Board (ETB).

Mr Griffin, who will head a division of 70 staff, was previously marketing director for English Heritage. He is also a former commercial manager for London Zoo.

Another newcomer is Martin Rispin, who has taken on the role of visitor services development manager for the ETB. He was previously training information centre manager at Touche Ross.

Berkeley lures turner as chef

Andrew Turner has been appointed executive chef at the Berkeley Hotel in London's Knightsbridge, following the departure of John Williams to sister property Claridge's.

Mr Turner joins from the five-star Grand hotel in Amsterdam where he was executive chef under the eye of Albert Roux, who advises the hotel.

ONOFRIO MAIMONE to executive chef, Faenol Fawr country hotel, Bodelwyddan, Clwyd, from head chef, Don Pepe restaurant, Liverpool.

MARIA IOANNOU to consultant at financial recruitment specialist Hotel Accounts Personnel, from marketing assistant, Méridien/Forte Grand.

THOMAS LENNON to rooms business manager, Vienna Henry VIII Hotel, Bayswater, London, from groups and tours co-ordinator, Plaza on Hyde Park, London.

FIONA ROBINO to consultant, retail and restaurant division, Berkeley Scott Selection, from regional manager, Adams Childrenswear.

STUART MANSELL to executive head chef, Jarvis Bankfield Hotel, Bingley, West Yorkshire, from a similar post at the Three Sisters Hotel in nearby Keighley.

DUNCAN CLEMENTS to assistant food and beverage manager, Forum Hotel, London, from the same post at the Glasgow Hilton.
