Kerr to head up portman team

After a £6.2m refurbishment, the Radisson SASPortman Hotel, London, has added the final touchesto its operation with the appointment of head chef Brian Kerr.

Mr Kerr was previously chef saucier at Quaglino's and, before that, chef de partie at the Mayfair Inter-Continental, London.

Declan Burke has joined the 279-bedroom hotel as financial controller, from the Conrad International London hotel. He replaces Stella Donoghue who is now the front office manager.

Marianne Boothman has been appointed executive housekeeper from a similar position at the Radisson Berkshire Hotel, on London's Oxford Street.

Evans gets sales job in Glasgow

Valerie Evans has moved from the Copthorne Aberdeen to join the Copthorne Glasgow as sales development manager. She is teaming up with former colleague Amanda Scott, who started at the Glasgow hotel in July as general manager from the same position in Aberdeen.

Chesnutt takes root at ripley

Steven Chesnutt is to take up the position of executive head chef of the Ripley Castle Estate in North Yorkshire.

Mr Chesnutt moves from the Victoria & Albert Hotel in Manchester, where he was head chef under John Benson-Smith. He now has overall responsibility for catering functions at the castle and for the restaurant at the four-star Boar's Head Hotel.

Before working at the Victoria & Albert, Mr Chesnutt worked with Michel Rouxat the Waterside Inn, Bray, at the Inter-Continental in London and at the Chester Grosvenor.

Anderson made Morton director

Greta Anderson, general manager of the Golf View Hotel in Nairn, in the Highlands, has been made a director of the hotels division of Morton Properties, which owns the hotel.

Mrs Anderson has worked at the 48-bedroom hotel for 16 years and has been retained by seven different companies who have owned the hotel in that time. As a director of the hotels division, her responsibilities will extend to the Royal Golf Hotel, in Dornoch, which is also owned by Morton Properties.

Wilson to sell leading hotels

The Leading Hotels of the World consortium has appointed Alex Wilson as its new sales manager.

Mr Wilson joins from Campanile Hotels in London, where he was a sales executive for 15 months. In his new role, Mr Wilson will be responsible for increasing the profile of Leading Hotels of the World, which represents 295 five-star properties.

Obituary: David Mitchell

David Mitchell, company personnel manager with the Savoy Group, died last month after a short illness.

Mr Mitchell, who joined the company in 1954, was 64. He joined the group's training centre in 1988 and took over responsibility for operations there in the early 1990s.
