General manager at regents plaza

David Sharpe has joined Peter Tyrie's Balmoral International as general manager of the 200-bedroom Regents Plaza Hotel & Suites, opening in London's Maida Vale next June.

Mr Sharpe has been general manager of the Hilton Nat-ional at Cobham, Surrey, since February 1992 and is a former executive assistant manager of the Kensington and Olympia Hiltons in London.

The Regents Plaza's director of sales and marketing is Ann Marie Gildea who, until April, performed a similar role for London's Rathbone Hotel and Edinburgh's Royal Terrace. Since then she has worked as a consultant.

Mayes moves to counryside inns

Colin Mayes has been appointed operations director of Countryside Inns & Hotels, a division of the Magic Pub Co.

Mr Mayes was vice-president of AFI Hotels, Forte's joint venture with Agip in Italy.

Brown quits forte to join swallow

Keith Brown, director of sales and marketing for Forte's White Hart Hotels, has been appointed marketing director for Swallow Hotels. Mr Brown replaces Nick Burrows who left in March in a management reshuffle at Swallow. The position has been vacant since then.

Miles takes helm at de la pole arms

Dominic Miles is to manage the De La Pole Arms in Wingfield, Suffolk, reopened recently after a three-year closure.

The pub was bought by St Peter's Brewery Company last year, and has been the subject of an extensive renovation. The company also owns St Peter's Hall near Bungay, Suffolk, the Oaksmere Hotel, near Diss, Norfolk, and Hamblyn House in Rickinghall, also in Suffolk.

Newcombe goes to four seasons

Michael Newcombe, former front of house manager at London's Regent hotel (now the Landmark) has moved to the Four Seasons Hotel, London, in the same capacity.

His predecessor, Klaus Kabelitz, stays until early next year as project co-ordinator for a £1m refurbishment. He then moves to Berlin as rooms division manager at the new Four Seasons Hotel.

Another recent appointment is Livio Faverio as director of food and beverage. He was formerly catering manager at the company's hotel in Milan.
