Savoy fills vacancy left by Haigh

The Savoy Group has filled the vacancy for sales and marketing director, which has been empty since the sudden departure of Peter Haigh last August.

Irish-born Geraldine McKenna joins from the Inter-Continental in New York where she was director of sales UK since 1991. She takes up the post on 1 May.

Before joining the hotel industry, Ms McKenna worked for Aer Lingus and British Airways.

Sharp sales staff for thistle group

Thistle and Mount Charlotte Hotels has made three area sales manager appointments.

Katie Allen was previously sales executive at the 96-bed-room Quality Clock Hotel in Welwyn, Hertfordshire.

William Helsby moves from the position of regional sales manager at Britannic Travel, Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Michelle Sillars has been promoted from sales manager at the 124-bedroom Golden Valley Thistle hotel, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Hutt takes on a consultant's role

Ruth Hutt has joined Berkshire-based Competitive Contract Services as a consultant, advising on competitive tendering within both the public and private sectors.

Ms Hutt previously worked for Bradford City Council as catering manager.

New recruits to hospital team

Bournemouth Nuffield Hospital has increased its hotel services team with two appointments.

Christian Lemmer has become food and beverage manager after studying for a graduate diploma in management studies at Bournemouth University.

Nina Howe joins the hospital as front of house manger after working at the 19-bedroom Hotel du Vin & Bistro, Winchester, Hampshire.

Galgani given marketing task

Franco Galgani has been appointed marketing director of Scottish Highland Hotels.

Mr Galgani will continue as general manger of the 197-bedroom Carlton Highland Hotel, Edinburgh.

Management trio for leisure firm

Leisure Great Britian has made three managerial appointments.

Julie Tully has been promoted to group finance and administrative manager from deputy financial controller at the group's 500-bedroom Hotel Burstin in Folkestone, Kent.

Julie Stayte joins as group personnel and training manger after working as training consultant for the Hotel & Catering Training Company.

David Otteson becomes food and beverage manager at the 377-bedroom London Park Hotel.

Sir Rocco picks Pascall as FD

Sir Rocco Forte has appointed David Pascall as finance director of his London-based team working on buying back Forte hotels from Granada.

Mr Pascall was previously finance director of money broking and securities at MAI and chief executive for Asia and Pacific business with the same company.

Obituary: Roy Goodwin

After working in the catering industry for 37 years, Roy Goodwin died recently aged 73.

Mr Goodwin began his career with catering equipment manufacturer Gardiner and Gulland in 1947.

In 1966, he joined the Electricity Council as a catering consultant before ill health forced early retirement in 1984.
