Refurbished charlton house puts on the mulberry style

Charlton House Hotel in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, has reopened following a major refurbishment and restoration programme undertaken by new owner Roger Saul.

Mr Saul and his wife Monty, founders of luxury goods company Mulberry, bought the 17-bedroom property in September 1996, saving it from a planned conversion into flats.

The couple have decorated the hotel and conference centre in the Mulberry style, filling it with antiques, paintings and curios.

Head chef for the newly reopened hotel, Trevor Brooks, joins from the Table Restaurant in Torquay, Devon.

Charlton House is the latest addition to Grand Heritage Hotels, the US-based consortium that markets historic hotels.
