A representative for  Heston Blumenthal and the three-Michelin-starred Fat Duck has spoken out about reports that the chef has sold the restaurant to a relative.

According to a report in the Mail on Sunday Blumenthal sold the restaurant to his father’s step brother Ronnie Lowenthal for an undisclosed sum.

However, the spokeswoman confirmed Lowenthal had invested in the Fat Duck group, which owns the Fat Duck and nearby Hind's Head pub,  twelve months ago.

Lowenthal, who lives in South Africa, was invited to invest in the company to free Blumenthal from business management activities and allow him to concentrate on his research and development for both restaurants.

Blumenthal is one of just three UK chefs to hold the top accolade of three Michelin stars.

He recently recruited former Michelin-starred chef Clive Dixon to push forward the food at the Hind’s Head.
