Carved Angel Café

Peter Gorton and Paul Roston, owners of the Horn of Plenty hotel and restaurant in Tavistock, Devon, have sold the last of their three Carved Angel Cafés

The city centre restaurant in Exeter has a prime location in the historic Cathedral Yard and is directly opposite Exeter Cathedral.

It can seat 36 diners in the main dining room and another 14 on the lower floor.

The new owners are Laurie Preece and Andrew Shortman, who acquired the property through the Exeter office of Christie + Co off a guide price of £215,000.

Preece’s husband recently sold the Lord Haldon hotel in Dunchideock, Exeter, where  Shortman was executive chef.

Shortman plans to rename the business No 21 Cathedral Yard.

The restaurant has traded as the Carved Angel Café since 2001 and its sale follows the disposal of other branches in Dartmouth in Devon and Taunton in Somerset.

The café chain followed Gorton and Roston’s acquisition in 2000 of the legendary
legendary Carved Angel restaurant in Dartmouth,  which was created in the mid-1970s by Joyce Molyneux.

Since 2004, the restaurant has traded as the New Angel under John Burton-Race.
