Revpar static in London hotels

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) remained static in London but fell by 8.8% in the provinces in the week ending 2 May, 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London’s £104.74 revpar was the result of a 1.2 percentage point rise in occupancy, to 86.3%, which countered a 1.3% decline in average room rate to £121.39.

In the same week, regional revpar dropped to £48.29, down from £52.92 in the corresponding week of 2008. Occupancy contracted by 2.9 percentage points to 68.9% while average room rate decreasedl by 5% to £70.04.

Edinburgh hotels fared much better, boosting revpar by 4.2% (to £64.89) on the back of a 2.7 percentage point rise in occupancy and a 0.5% rise in room rate.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 2 May dropped by 11.8% in London (to £90.90) and by 18.4% in the provinces, to £43.04. For the same period, Edinburgh hotels increased revpar by 1.3% to £57.58.
