Ryan Murphy leaves the Savoy for the Lowry

Ryan Murphy, formerly head chef at the River restaurant at London's Savoy hotel, has been appointed executive chef at the Lowry hotel in Manchester.

American-born Murphy joins the 165-bedroom Rocco Forte property with a wealth of experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants.

In his home town of New York, he worked alongside Daniel Boulud at Daniel, Alain Ducasse at the Essex House and Jean-Georges Vongerichten at the Trump Tower.

Murphy's first European experience was at the two-Michelin-starred Schloss Velden in Austria. In 2009, he relocated to the UK to take up a temporary position at the two-Michelin-starred Vineyard at Stockcross, near Newbury, before joining the opening team at the Savoy.

At the Lowry, Murphy will be managing a team of 30 chefs and will put his own seasonal recipes on the menus for the River bar and restaurant, private dining and all meetings and events.

Murphy said he was delighted to be joining the team at the Lowry. "I am looking forward to working with the farmers and suppliers to provide our customers with the best quality products," he explained.

"I believe a satisfying dining experience requires more than just successful pairings of flavours, I spend a lot of time thinking about the evolution of a meal and my menus are a culmination of that."
