Hong Kong-based restaurant group Aqua has revealed details of its forthcoming restaurants atop the former Dickins & Jones department store in central London.

In a move first revealed by Caterersearch in May, Aqua, which operates ten high-end restaurants in Hong Kong as well as an outlet in the Chinese capital of Beijing, is set to open two restaurants in the building on Regent Street in autumn.

Spanning 17,000sq ft, Aqua London will include Aqua Nueva, offering contemporary northern Spanish cuisine inspired by the region of San Sebastian, while Aqua Kyoto will comprise a sushi bar and sumibiyaki charcoal grill.

At the heart of Aqua London, which will include corner roof terraces overlooking the West End, will be Aqua Spirit, a bar offering pre-dinner drinks and signature bar snacks.

Aqua owner and managing director David Yeo said the group was “very excited” to be opening in London.

“Like our venues in Hong Kong and Beijing, we hope that Aqua London will prove a huge hit with locals and visitors alike,” he said. “It will combine great food, service, décor, ambience and location – qualities that have always been key elements in all our restaurants.”

The former Dickins & Jones flagship store closed in January 2006 after high rents made it unprofitable. Redevelopment work started later that year although signs displaying Dickins & Jones continue to be displayed.

Once reopened in the autumn, the building will have a glass extension with terraces where Aqua London will be housed.
