Takeaway chain Domino’s Pizza is thriving despite the recession with first half profits up by 25.2% to £13.6m.

Sales increased by 15.4% over the six month period and like-for-like sales were up by 7.1%, but down from 9% in the first four months as the warmer weather coaxed customers to leave their homes and eat out.

Earnings per share were up by 21% to 6.3p and the group is benefiting from growing internet sales and its marketing offers including sponsorship of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

Domino’s chief executive Chris Moore said that while the warm weather has dampened demand this will be overcome as the “lure of the barbecue fades”.

“The group believes it is on track to exceed market expectations for the full year,” he said.

The company has opened 23 outlets over the past six months with plans to open 50 by the end of the year and aims to raise its total from 576 to 1,000 by 2017.
