Richard Shepherd quashes Langan's sale rumours
London restaurateur Richard Shepherd has quashed the rumour that his Langan's group is to be sold, after an article appeared claiming just that at the weekend.
Speaking to Caterersearch.com, the Caterer and Hotelkeeper Lifetime Achievement award winner categorically denied that he was gearing up to sell Langan's Brasserie, or any of the other four restaurants in the group.
"It's simply not correct. While Langan's has been up for sale in effect since we opened it 34 years ago, at the right price, I can confirm that I have not instructed my lawyers or any property agents to sell it or any of the other restaurants at this time," he said.
Shepherd, who is 49th in this year's Caterersearch.com 100 power list, said he received frequent approaches for the businesses and that while he listened to them he had, to date, always said no.
He added that while, at almost 65 years of age, he didn't want to "die on the job", he hadn't decided to retire just yet.
As well as owning Langan's Brasserie, Odin's and Langan's Bistro, Langan's Coq d'Or and Shepherd's, the restaurateur has also built up a collection of floating Langan's Brasseries on 11 P&O cruise liners.
