Pub operator JD Wetherspoon is to run a delivery vehicle on fish and chip oil from June and plans to convert others to reduce its carbon footprint.
Wetherspoon, which has joined forces with DHL Excel Supply Chain and energy company Argent, will use bio diesel originating from oil used to cook fish and chips in its pubs to fuel the vehicle.
The pub company has 95 vehicles operating from a Daventry, Northamptonshire base and plans to convert more to bio diesel.
Wetherspoon commercial director Paul Harbottle said: “Our delivery vehicles make more than 2,000 deliveries a week to our pubs and bars, so it is important that we take steps to reduce our carbon footprint.”
“We believe that Wetherspoon is the first retailer to recycle its own cooking oil for use in its delivery vehicles,” he said.
