Savoy hotel employees abandon cars in green initiative

Employees at the Savoy did not use their cars to get to work today as part of a green initiative.

Under the global Sustainable Summer campaign launched by Savoy owner Fairmont Hotels, staff at the five-star hotel in London pledged to walk to work or use public transport today.

Energy savings will be measured to illustrate just what can be achieved by taking small measures.

The move comes a day after last night’s “Lights out London” initiative, which saw businesses across the capital, including Hilton and the restaurants of Richard Corrigan, Brian Turner and Aldo Zilli turn their lights off between 9-10pm.

The Savoy has won two awards through its dedication to greener policies. They were awarded silver from the Visit London "Future London Sustainable Tourism Award" and Fairmont's Environmental Hotel of the Year 2006.
