Mercure opens in former Greenwich police building

A new mid-market Mercure hotel has opened within an award-winning former police building in Greenwich, London.

The 145-bedroom Mercure London Greenwich hotel occupies the 1930's Police House, which has been extended with a two-story roof-top extension with floor-to-ceiling windows. A penthouse suite now occupies the ninth floor of the extension.

Situated within the conservation area of Greenwich, the building has won a RIBA bronze award for its conversion, with the bar and restaurant located in the former shooting range of the building.

Michael Rebeiro, the hotel's general manager, said: "Having the opportunity to renovate a previously redundant building - especially one with such history and character - has made this opening really exciting."

Accor is set to open its 75th Mercure hotel in the UK within the next few months. The brand now has more than 700 hotels in 51 countries.
