Leisure village operator Center Parcs has signed an agreement to operate a new luxury waterfront apartment and leisure complex in Jersey.

Les Jardins de la Mer will occupy 5.7 acres of waterfront land in St Helier and contain 90 beachfront residential apartments and 70 leisure apartments.

The commercial areas will include a spa complex, restaurant, delicatessen, recreational area and public and private gardens.

Under the agreement, Center Parcs will have a 21-year operating lease for the site and will pay £2m towards the fitting-out of the facilities.

Les Jardins de la Mer is expected to open in 2008, subject to planning permission.

Martin Dalby, chief executive of Center Parcs, said: “Center Parcs sees this agreement as a low cost opportunity to expand our portfolio of businesses in line with our strategy to seek growth options complimentary to our core offer.”
