City Inn set for London

Hotel company City Inn has been given the go-ahead to build a 480-bedroom hotel in London.

Outline planning permission was granted by Westminster City Council's planning committee at a meeting last night.

The hotel will be in John Islip Street, near Millbank, and building work is scheduled to start in the autumn. It is expected to open in 2002.

Operations director Janet Matthews said: "We have a lot of work to do in a short period of time but we are confident the hotel will fit well with the location."

Room rates will be under £100.

City Inn opened its first hotel, in Bristol, last May. Its second, a 164-bedroom property in Glasgow, opens on 28 April and a third hotel is set to open in Birmingham's Brindleyplace next February, with 238 bedrooms.
