Turnberry seeks Rouse successor

Turnberry Hotel in Ayrshire is hoping to name a new general manager soon, to replace Chris Rouse who retired last month after 20 years in the job.

The five-star, 132-bedroom golf hotel is currently being run by resident manager Ross Furlong, who has himself spent a total of eight years at Turnberry. Rouse has been retained as an adviser.

Starwood Lodging, the US real estate investment trust, bought the hotel at Christmas for about £51.5m from Japanese firm Nitto Kogyo. The property now forms part of Starwood's Westin Hotels chain.

Born in 1941, Rouse was named Hotelier of the Year in 1996. Under his direction, Turnberry also won Hotel of the Year in the 1993 Caterer & Hotelkeeper awards.
