Wendy's to rethink UK position

Wendy's, the USA's third-biggest hamburger chain, has confirmed that it is reviewing its operations in the UK.

Jan Hubrecht, regional vice-president for Europe and the Middle East, admitted: "That is technically correct. I think trading in the UK high street at the moment, given the current economic cycle the country is in, is not as easy as it was two or three years ago.

"We are constantly reviewing all our operations. We continue to operate restaurants in the UK and I am not wanting to say anything more."

Wendy's, which returned to the UK in 1992 six years after its first attempt to conquer the British fast-food market failed, has 18 restaurants nationwide.
