Around the stands(26 July 2001 13:54)As usual, Hobart plans a large and varied stand at Hotelympia 2000, with equipment on show including warewashers, preparation machines, latest beverage makers, ovens, steamers, ranges, grills, griddles and salamanders. Two of the four La Parade des Chefs kitchens will be kitted out with Hobart equipment. (Stand 668/866). Most kinds of kitchen prep tasks will be demonstrated on the Robot Coupe(UK) stand using the latest in mechanised and manual tools. Coverage ranges from multi-attachment food processors and vegetable prep machines to dedicated Tellier tools for wedging, slicing, grating and other tasks, to say nothing of can openers. (Stand 882). German-made Felix knives, which feature a "revolutionary" ergonomic design, will be showcased by Gilberts alongside latest offerings from Tucel, Paderno, Rosle and Nemco. Also look out for the Zumex high-visibility juicer and a "palm pilot" concept developed by Atkins for logging temperatures into a hand-held PC. (Stand 384). Article continues below
A combined potato oven and merchandiser for jacket potatoes, updated conveyor toasters, a new range of cauldron style soup kettles and a new size of pizza grill are among a host of new additions to the Roller Grill (UK) selection. Caterers interested in smoking their own meat should look out for a new large capacity Cold Smoker big enough to handle a whole ham or two levels of salmon. The company is also staying true to its name with 5,7,9 and 11 roller grills for fitment on the new CB20 Bun Warmer. (Stand 982). Hot from its prize-winning debut at Equip'Hotel in Paris, the Bourgeois Pass-Thro' combi-steamer will show Hotelympia visitors the potential of its double-door design, which ensures that raw and cooked food is not handled by the same staff. Each side of the oven has its own set of controls. Another feature of note is a fat segregation plate for more hygienic disposal. The latest 20-grid model will be shown.(Stand 273). The Sirius cooking suite from Elro employs micro-processors to monitor cooking functions and cut energy usage by up to 30 per cent. Also look out for the stainless steel finish Installation Wall, designed to support any Elro cantilevered equipment while concealing and protecting all services. (Stand 487). Two years since its debut at Hotelympia 1998, Wolf Catering (UK) returns to Earls Court with an extensive choice of ovens, ranges, grills, griddles, fryers, boiling tops and warewashers built to robust, no-nonsense designs. (Stand 668). Innovations in both cooking and serving equipment for private and public sector catering are promised by Bartlett, makers of fryers, ranges, combi-steamers and food serveries. The company is also showcasing fume extraction developments from its BAQS Air Quality division. (Stand G5244). Hotelympia 2000 will be a "major platform" for Parry Catering Equipment, with a state-of-the-art stand and significant additions to the company's expanding portfolio of compact kitchen equipment at affordable prices. (Stand 975). Products being shown by Aberna under its FED brand name include two sizes of twin deck pizza oven, a five strong range of glass and dishwashers, stainless steel sinks in three sizes and Mono Blocks for freezer and cold rooms, including straddle wall hanging units, top-mount ceiling units and split systems. Stand visitors have the chance to win a 9ft Malibu Pintail surfboard worth £500. (Stand G2656). The canary-yellow Molteni range commissioned by Antony Worrell Thompson for the BBC Food and Drink programme will be centre stage on the Buttress stand. Stoves from the French manufacturer now come in 5 colours, either standard or made-to-order. "At Hotelympia, we aim to ask chefs whether they can afford NOT to buy Molteni," comments MD Steve Loughton. (Stands 572,574,669). Kitchen equipment designers using the new second version of the CESACAD Symbol Library gain access to drawings and specifications of over 20 major companies' equipment without having to switch CDs within their computer. The programme add-on is compiled from 2D and 3D equipment drawings and electronic specification sheets supplied by CESA member companies including some additional major players like Falcon, Foster and Viscount. CESA (The Association of Catering Equipment Manufacturers and Importers) will show the new library on its stand along with other information.(Stand 696) The Maestrowave Combi-Chef III combination microwave oven is being shown by R.H.Hall (Microwave) with help from a Manchester United team member, along with a new high-end Sharp oven claimed to be the most powerful compact microwave on the market. (Stand G2044). Platinum frypans have a non-stick coating tough enough for use with ordinary metal utensils. Lune Catering Equipment is showing them along with latest developments in aluminium and stainless steel cookware, including induction-compatible non-stick aluminium frypans. (Stand G2542). Fryers from the Dean Industries range, acquired by Frymaster in 1998, will appear on the Welbilt stand along with a Junior version of Frymaster's SinBaD system, which pre-portions French fries prior to cooking for reduced waste, consistent output and better space utilisation in fryer areas. Also look out for a new Contact Toaster with an exclusive dual belt system which produces toasted buns in just 16 seconds from start to finish. (Stand 282). New Dante Chargrills from Bakers Pride have radiants, glo-stones or both plus a variety of interchangeable top grates and optional fajita grates. Units are available counter-mounted or floor-standing. Other equipment on show includes the new Stone Bake oven, producing a much drier heat than standard ovens for crisper more evenly baked pizza, Mighty Chef conveyor ovens and APW/Wyott fast food equipment. (Stand 1084). Shown for the first time in their own right, Ambach UK products will include the compact Eco Line and the big System 900 heavy duty range. Equipment is supplied ready to be installed on a plinth with no adaptations needed. One piece tops seal in the entire cooking surface. (Stand 684). A custom-made Rorgue range just about to go into a top London hotel will appear on the Exclusive Ranges stand, demonstrating such features as a 20mm solid top plate and oven with cast steel base and burners inset into refractory bricks for optimum heat uniformity. (Stand 684). For speed with flexibility, Sanyo induction hobs work with standard 18-8 or 18-10 stainless steel pans (rather than being restricted to expensive copper-base pans). See them on the Valera stand along with the Quik 'n'Crispy unit for oil-less frying, grilling and baking. (Stand 475). Panasonic's Pizza Delivery Warmer is designed to retain pizza temperature for up to 30 minutes and to be effective for two hours of continuous operation. A full range of professional microwaves and combination models also appears. (Stand G2942). Convection frying, to be demonstrated by Frialator International, forces the oil around the food during cooking, which results in less of it being absorbed. TurboFry units also have continuous filtration. A fully programmable Blodgett conveyor oven also debuts. (Stand 881/888). The multi-brand Viscount stand includes Moorwood Vulcan M Line medium duty char-grills and griddles plus Sadia refrigeration (with a new wet fish model)and temp-rite insulated meal systems. (Stand 582). Convotherm plans constant demonstrations of its combi-steamers on prime cooking, bulk reheating and plated banqueting jobs. The stand also features the AR series of forced air convection ovens and Mini Le Cart regeneration trolleys. (Stand 276). Cres Cor Aqua-Temp humidified ovens, available in 9 versions for roasting, cooking, baking and regeneration applications appear alongside mobile heated and refrigerated trolleys on the Chalkman Group stand. (Stand 488). When food is placed on the Accutemp griddle, steam in a special chamber beneath the surface ensures constant edge-to-edge plate temperature and boosts output, The MCS Technical Products stand also includes US-developed Cooktek induction hobs, the Accutemp Steam'n'Hold vacuum steamer, Lang computer controlled convection ovens, Mile High icemakers and Mec-Lock mobilisation systems for water-using kitchen equipment. Rational UK's latest addition to the ClimaPlus Combi (CPC)ovens is called IQT and promises perfect browning with up to 50 per cent reductions in weight loss over traditional combis and good results with slow cooking. There's also a new 40 x 1/1 gas oven. (Stand 566). Toaster specialists Rowlett Catering Appliances have a new three-slot model in its Classic Collection for dealing with both bread and toasted sandwiches. (Stand 1181). A new light-medium duty 1200 watt microwave ovens from Samsung is claimed to offer 35 per cent more usable oven space than traditional compact models. Distributor Apuro is also promoting water dispensers, rice cookers and electronic cash registers plus a new low cost five year warranty package. (Stand G2556). Merrychef is showing Mealstream combination ovens with greatly increased operating speeds plus an improved version of the Turbo-Air vending microwave. Also look out for the company's enlarged range of side-hinged door standard microwaves. (Stand G2649). Lincat's entry into the full size restaurant range market with the Opus 700 series, which includes gas and electric fryers and gas oven ranges, chargrill, griddle and salamander. An extended hob design provides optimum cooking area. (Stand 679/680). Quick-release flexible connectors for safe movement and easy cleaning of gas appliances feature in three versions on the Mecserflex stand along with a complete selection of water connection equipment, pre-rinse units and hose reels from T&S Foodservice. (Stand 994). Boasting 7000 different spares and ancillaries for over 130 manufacturers, Caterparts is promoting its commitment to reliable operation with its well-illustrated catalogue. (Stand 574). Details of the "largest temporary kitchen in the world" - to be installed at the Olympic Games in Sydney - will be shown on the PKL Group stand, along with the new Transworld System, based on ISO container frames which allow units to be built into open plan catering, medical and accommodation complexes; 244 such units were recently sent to 17 sites in Kosovo. (Stand 373). Container Kitchen Systems has the Foldakabin Kitchen, a "collapsible" kitchen for go-anywhere applications, plus a "Mixed Double" module combining two facilities, such as kitchen and dishwash area, in one transportable container. (Stand 176). Portable Refrigeration Company has added the Breezair 90 self-contained mobile air conditioner to its hire selection, with big energy savings promised as well as new levels of comfort in kitchens and front-of-house areas. (Stand 1394). A cabinet which displays its contents via a vertically and horizontally curving glass front is being launched under the name Koreia by Italian countering producer RSS Bocchini. The stand showcases a wide range of design ideas in countering, typically employing modular format to maximise variety while keeping down costs. A complete artisan ice cream package including the latest Frigomat batch ice cream maker will be demonstrated by sister company RSS of Hereford. (Stand 694). The HT100 heated trolley making its debut on the TSE-Brownson stand can be supplied as a mobile unit or hot cupboard, with or without Gastronorm pans and with overhead lighting gantry enabling its use as a mobile servery. It runs off a 13 amp plug and passes easily through a 30 inch doorway. Optional extras include service counter, tray rail, sneeze screens, bumper bars and digital readout.(Stand G2056). Seal Display Products has a new free-standing Pizza/Sandwich Preparation Station as well a redesigned Pizza Merchandiser with a stylish curved edge look. (Stand 679). Sorrento food display units for sandwiches, cold drinks, cold meats and salads bring a touch of the Mediterranean to the Victor Manufacturing range, alongside latest versions of Caribbean, Jamaican, Banquetline and other food display units. Custom-made concepts also feature on a second stand. (Stand 394/584). Modular countering for bars based on pre-assembled stainless steel under-bar fittings are being showcased by Olympic Catering along with extensive customised counter and turnkey design facilities. (Stand G2561). Made in three sizes, Catermax insulated transport carriers from Rubbermaid are designed to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold, using innovative thermal insulation and a lid closure based on a serpentine seal rather than gaskets. Containers are built to work with Rubbermaid Max System Carts, X-tra Food pans and Caterer's Triple Trolley. (Stand 180). Replica presentations from recent high profile projects plus new custom finishes and latest ideas for food display will be centre stage on the stand of Colbrook, which since 1998 has operated as the bespoke servery division of NRC Refrigeration. (Stand 388). Foster Refrigerator is introducing environmentally friendly Hydro-carbon gas as an optional refrigerant across its range of cabinets. The stand will also showcase the Computair Coldroom System, a computer-aided design system which promises faster and more efficient quotations for any chosen coldroom configuration, including areas with limited access or awkward spaces. Part of the stand focuses on Foster's growing range of cabinets which can provide heated as well as chilled storage, including Banquetmaster and the new Gastronorm Roll-In. (Stand 66/86). Gram is backing the launch of two compact blast chillers with an "extreme sports" competition. Winners choose prizes from a list of daredevil outdoor pursuits including Ferrari racing, whitewater rafting and snowboarding. The total blast chiller range now spans six cabinets from 18kg to 180 kg capacity. Other products on show include upright cabinets, cold rooms and Gastronorm counters. (Stand 279). Extra-durable 304 grade stainless steel is used throughout on Caravell by Friulinox upright refrigerators, freezers and refrigerated counters. The range has been recently expanded to include blast chillers and freezers from 15-210kg (chilling) and 10-135kg (freezing), with easy to operate electronic controls incorporating a customised master board. There are also new backbar chillers and modular coldrooms. (Stand 1176). A new self-service ice dispenser aimed at cost sector catering is being launched by Hoshizaki UK along with two new machines which produce crescent ice. Other exhibits planned include the IM25CLE and IM45CLE undercounter icemakers introduced during 1999 and the big IM240 which produces up to 240 kgs of ice per day yet has a footprint of under 0.5 sq m. (Stand 1291). The Scotsman TC180 table-top icemaker and dispenser to be shown by Hubbard Refrigeration features significant new technology, making small randomly shaped "chunklets" at a rate of 120 kg/day. (Stand G2647). Modular storage kits suitable for minus 40C coldrooms - priced from £120 for a 4 shelf 1 metre unit - is being shown by Hispack along with tray and container trolleys. (Stand 563). The patented AquaIsolate feature on EZT 400 and 700 water boilers from Marco Beverage Systems separates water compartment and electrics for safer and more reliable operation. Also look out for greatly simplified descaling. Another development on show is the EZT 100 wall-mounted boiler in stylish contrasting polished and satin stainless steel. (Stand G2056). Visitors to the Azkoyen stand can win a trip to the company's headquarters in the Navarra region of Spain. All business cards dropped into a box on the stand are eligible for the prize draw. Demonstrations of the Azkoyen range of traditional espresso machines include a "Best Barista" competition for catering journalists. (Stand G1950. Cappuccino milk frothing without untidy external milk handling is a key attraction on the Cafina c5 fully automatic espresso brewer with its 1.5 litre internal refrigerated milk storage and foaming facility. The machine uses chip card technology to permit pre-programming and monitoring of temperatures. The Melitta System Service stand will also show the new System 600 bulk brew range and 2000 automatic filter machine.(Stand 174). Horizon automatic espresso machines, made by Gaggia Espanola for The Taylor Company, combine the "theatre" of espresso service with high-tech controls for consistent output of a wide range of espresso styles. (Stand 553). The Saquella Pod System from Saquella UK helps make espresso without the need for grinding and tamping, each pod holds 7 grams of coffee to make a fresh espresso in the system's one and two group machines. A complete espresso package, covering state-of-the-art machines, premium coffee, training and sales support material, will be shown under the Piazza D'Oro brand by Douwe Egberts Coffee Systems. Other exhibits include Cafitesse 400 dispensers using liquid concentrate, Leone traditional espresso machines and Aro automats. (Stand 537). Warewashing and laundry are the twin themes of the Miele stand, with a compact new self-contained break-tank appearing on thermal disinfection dishwashers alongside the established range of freshwater dishwashers. Washer-extractors for hotel and restaurant laundering feature Profitronic for pre-set and bespoke programming of cycles and detergent dispensing to cut operating and staff costs. (Stand 876). Wave your hand in front of the Bay West Wave 'n' Dry hand towel dispenser and 28cm of paper towelling is automatically delivered without any contact with the dispenser itself. The touch-free unit is solar powered. Other dispensers being shown by Disposables UK Group are Prodene soap dispensers including the Savonpak 1200 Electronic unit, which emits a low-soap warning to signal the need for soap top-up. (Stand 231). Low (60dBA) noise levels suit GD tub vacuum cleaners, being shown by Nilfisk-Advance, to hotel bedroom areas. Also on the stand is the ST1000 battery-operated ride-on sweeper for banqueting and other large areas and the CA340 walk-behind lightweight scrubber dryer. Another productivity-booster is the GU700 one-pass upright carpet cleaner which has a 70cm brush path and clog-resisting 8cm intake hose. (Stand 484). Latest Schultess 6kg washer being shown by Armstrong Laundry Systems uses only the precise amount of water and energy needed for each load. It appears alongside Loadstar tumble dryers. (Stand 769). A daily prize draw takes place on the Meiko UK stand, with each day's winner receiving an Ecostar frontloading warewasher. The new model is being launched in a glasswasher version, with 400mm square racks and 300mm clear entry height and dishwasher, with 500 mm square racks and 320mm entry. Features include double wall construction, Eco-filter, rinse-aid dosing and single phase connection. (Stand 580). Water treatment specialist Everpure is demonstrating its expanding choice of water softeners for warewashing and other applications as well as water treatment systems for use with ice-makers, combi-steamers, water boilers, post mix systems and water coolers. (Stand 1236). The Kit-45 laundry concept being shown by Anglowest Viking enables one operator to process 45kg per hour (averaging 875 sheets, pillowcases, towels, etc) in an area under 32 sq m. (Stand G1938). Leading US paper plate and cup maker Solo Cup Company is showing Deli Gourmet clear food containers and lids, made in recyclable PET for glass-like clarity when serving salads, fresh cut fruit and vegetables, cold pasta and entrees. Heavy duty paper hot drink cups coated with a poly-lined inner surface preserve beverage quality and minimise leaks. There are four stock designs - plus custom-printing - in sizes from 118ml to 591ml, plus snug-fitting "on the go" drink-through lids. (Stand 119). Plastico Occasionware emulates the look of crafted cut crystal in disposable table and drinkware, ranging from Legacy, moulded with starburst and fleur-de-lys motifs to Presige fluted finish items and Scollware with baroque scoring. Dome lids accompany most items to accentuate food freshness and avoid spillages at events. New plastic tableware in metallic, sparkle and glitter effects also features on the stand. (Stand 418). Following "phenomenal" response to its launch of brightly coloured enemelled Gastronorm containers in 1999, Mermaid has extended the range. The stand also features line extensions to bakeware, cookware and utensil ranges plus a "radical new brand identity" and new 50 page colour catalogue. (Stand 288). A new design of airpump with lever dispense action is being shown by Harp Products plus a new double glass lined vacuum jug with push-button pour; it has a toughened plastic coating and comes in various colours and a choice of 4 capacities from 0.3 to 1.5 litres. (Stand G1847). A lemons-and-peaches design gives a Mediterranean theme to Benders' latest range of disposable plates, cups, table covers and napkins. Also new is summery Floral Check, splash-resistant Duck's Back table covers and banquet rolls with an oak-leaf and trellis theme and three new Christmas designs. (Stand 717). The Millennium Forage Hat being shown by Pal International features an improved closure and special Millennium design. Also on show is the Pal Pico, Pal Royale non-woven headwear and a range of disinfectant wipes. Pal's chef hats will also be well in evidence at Le Salon Culinaire. (Stand 415). Latest additions to the Demaglass Tableware toughened glassware range include Cornetto dessert dishes in clear or "Biscotto" glass, Chateau tall glasses, Chatsworth classic glassware, Premier continental-style glasses and party flutes plus a new line in novelty glasses. (Stand 617). Le Chinet is launching a free custom rim printing on its disposables. Minimum print run is 10,000 units with items supplied within 4 weeks of order confirmation. (Stand 741). Baco Foodservice is using the show for a major promotion of its kitchen foil and cling wrap products, with several new product initiatives expected. Flexible pouches for extended fresh food storage provide a focal point on the Terinex stand, plus a new size of dispenser for rolls of film or foil, easy-release silicone-coated Bakewell Baking Parchments and Cloudsoft facial tissues. (Stand 1039). Aluminium framed tables and chairs join the Sauvagnat UK's "Evolutif" range of indoor/outdoor furniture, combining the lightweight, durable metal with hardwood slats. There are also new tables with aluminium tops. Other furniture on show includes UltraResin, resin and cast iron/steel combinations and wicker. (Stand G2112). Personal storage lockers for use by catering staff or guests at hotels and leisure centres are being shown in a wide range of colours, materials and security options by Link Lockers. Seating, benches and cubicles also feature. (Stand G2208) Flame retardant curtains and accessories for hotels, including a custom-making service, will be featured by Cowans Contract Curtains.
