Murder plot obsessive told to shut up
A man who pestered guests and staff at London's Cumberland hotel with tales of a plot to kill an Arab leader has been told by magistrates that he must stop.
Magistrates heard last week that Yousuf Abdulla Ismail, 31, of Marylebone High Street, London, had been bothering staff and residents since 25 July with tales of a plot to kill President Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates.
On 16 August, Ismail was asked to leave the hotel and, when he refused, police had to remove him by force.
"There is a time and a place for everything, and hotels in the West End of London are not acceptable for this kind of behaviour," magistrate Geoffrey Breen told Ismail. "I give you credit for your plea of guilty, and I'm fining you £150 with the alternative of one day's imprisonment, which you have already served."
Ismail was bound over for the sum of £200 to keep the peace for a year.
"You can hang me if you see me doing anything wrong!" he exclaimed.
Ismail's defence solicitor said that he suffered from a psychiatric illness and was in London having treatment.
