Wendy's revises target for UK

Wendy's, the US hamburger chain, continues to expand its UK operations with the opening of its 11th UK restaurant in Magor, Gwent, next week, though growth is slower than predicted.

The franchised operation will be joined by a further six to eight new units this year, falling somewhat short of claims made in February this year of 25 new outlets opening in 1996.

New outlets include a company-owned unit in Bradford opening in the autumn and a unit in Belfast.

Wendy's is looking to increase its number of wholly owned and franchised restaurants by 25-30.

Growth is targeted in London and the South-east, the North-west and North-east.

The company is keen to establish relationships with leisure and retail developers. The Watford restaurant, which opened earlier this year, is a franchise operated by Bass Leisure Entertainments.
