In brief(26 July 2001 13:58)Second Marvin's The Celebrated Group has acquired a second site for Starvin' Marvin's, its American diner concept, and is planning to open a minimum of 12 more outlets over three years through franchising and joint ventures. Like the first outlet, which opened two years ago at Salford Quays, Manchester, the planned 60-seat Starvin' Marvin's at Haydock, Merseyside, will be manufactured off-site and shipped in completed and ready to operate. It is scheduled to open in October. Leisure scheme Following the shelving of the Bourbon Street leisure development next to Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre, developer Stadium Development has submitted a planning application for a new leisure scheme. The 200,000sq ft scheme includes themed restaurants, bars, a cinema, bowling and a nightclub. It is said to be radically different from the original plan and includes the re-routing of Meadowhall's ring-road. MDA communicates Berkshire-based contract caterer MDA Foodservices was named runner-up in the Daily Mail/BT Winning Communications Awards this week. MDA won the award for its use of a full range of telecommunications and the way it harnessed these to build turnover from just £148,000 in 1992 to more than £1m. Green Globe The Tourism Society and the British Incoming Tour Operators Association have signed up as industry associates of the Green Globe environmental management programme.
