Chef Kromberg honoured by Craft Guild

Peter Kromberg, executive chef at the Hotel Inter-Continental London and chef at its Le Soufflé fine-dining restaurant, has won this year's Special Award from the Craft Guild of Chefs. The 60-year-old chef, who will retire in September after more than 35 years in the industry, was honoured last night at the Craft Guild of Chefs 2001 Awards, held at London's Dorchester hotel. The award was given for services to the industry. Kromberg has run Le Soufflé for more than a quarter of a century, having joined the Hotel Inter-Continental at its opening in 1975. The awards are in their ninth year and are open to all chefs working in the industry, regardless of Craft Guild membership. Last night's other award winners were: - Banqueting Chef: Anthony Marshall, executive chef, London Hilton Park Lane. - Competition Chef: Willie Pike, executive chef, Sodexho. - Contract Catering Chef: Mark Fitzmaurice, executive chef, UBS Warburg. - Cost Sector Chef: Tracy Carr, executive chef, University of Sheffield. - Education Chef: Peter Richards, chef-director, Westminster Kingsway College, London. - Hotel & Restaurant Chef: Galton Blackiston, chef-patron, Morston Hall hotel and restaurant.
