Coliseum, owner of the Sports Cafe chain, is to open a new venue in Glasgow in December.

It has bought a 25-year lease on a site in Sauchiehall Street and building work is due to start next week on the 18,000sq ft site.

The new Sports Cafe will have two floors, five bars and capacity for up to 1,600 people. It will emply about 100 staff.

There are currently three Sports Cafes, in London, Birmingham and Manchester. More are being developed in Newcastle, Cardiff, Leeds and Liverpool.

Coliseum chief executive Bill Balkou said: "This is a prime site in Glasgow, and is an ideal location for a new Sports Cafe. this will take Coliseum half way towards its short-term goal of eight units in major cities of the UK."
