Fish
Supplies of wild cod are expected to decline as the week goes on, but prices should remain stable. Good supplies of large Icelandic fillets, however, are available and prices are starting to fall. With Norwegian boats fishing again, and an increased quota from Iceland, haddock is in plentiful supply. Plaice, on the other hand, is scarcer, a trend that looks set to continue for a few weeks. Bass and bream prices are increasing, while bad weather overseas is affecting the supply of tuna loins. Monkfish supply should ease in the coming weeks, though prices remain high on Dovers, striped bass and Scottish scallops. Fresh Produce
The main-crop potato situation is now improving and the price of jacket potatoes is falling. The skins of the new crops are not fully set, however, and some spoilage is still occurring. Anya new potatoes and Maris Peer have both been excellent. Corn on the cob in husk is now popular and mixed squash are plentiful again. French coco beans are a seasonal favourite as the beans ripen in the pods. Gooseberries and blackcurrants are becoming more sporadic as their season ends. Mountain or flat peaches have been delicious recently with very small stones. Blushed-skin apricots are excellent and Spanish watermelons are abundant and down in price.
