Simon Smith has become general manager of the 116-bedroom Express by Holiday Inn Hemel Hempstead, which is due to open next month. Simon joins from the Holiday Inn Cambridge, where he was operations manager. Julia Clark, bar and catering manager at Brighton’s Komedia live performance venue, has a new job in hotels. She has become general manager of Drakes, a 20-bedroom hotel on Brighton’s seafront, which opens at the end of the month. The new 115-bedroom Tulip Inn in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, due to open next month, has recruited Norrie Oswald to be its general manager. Before joining Golden Tulip, Norrie was general manager of the Thistle Hotel in Newcastle. Article continues below
Moat House Hotels has appointed Ann Checksfield as its new corporate and conference brand manager. Ann previously spent six years as marketing manager at the London Bridge Hospital. Also at Moat House there is a new human resources development manager, Lynette Lloyd. Lynette previously worked for the chain as resourcing manager for the North and area training manager for the South. Michael McCavana is the new man in charge of food and drink at the five-star, 152-bedroom Grand hotel in Eastbourne, East Sussex. Michael was promoted from the role of assistant conference and banqueting manager. Plus...Simon McMullan has been promoted by care home operator Anchor Trust. The former deputy chef manager at Chantry House in Saxmundham, Suffolk, has taken a step up as chef manager of the Firs in Felixstowe, Suffolk.
