Pengelley takes over Monte's at Carlton Tower

Chef Ian Pengelley is to take over Monte's restaurant in London's Carlton Tower hotel in the New Year.

Pengelley: opening in January

The Knightsbridge hotel closed Monte's - a restaurant and private members club - this weekend.

It will reopen in January as the 80-seat Pengelley San, which will offer the same style of Asian and Oriental cuisine that Pengelley served at Will Ricker's E&O restaurant.

Pengelley has signed a long lease for the restaurant and for a bar upstairs with a 1am licence and dance floor. He is paying Gordon Ramsay Holdings - which helped negotiate the deal - a management consultancy fee.

The Carlton Tower is still in talks for a third-party operator to run another bar downstairs, which will continue the private members club.
