Naime Torgut, senior event manager at the De Vere Belfrey hotel in Wishaw, Warwickshire, has won the Acorn Club's 2005 Acorn Scholarship.

But the 24-year-old wasn't able to collect her award at the presentation lunch held on Monday (22 November) at Marriott Hanbury Manor in Ware, Hertfordshire, as she had been rushed into hospital the night before with acute appendicitis. A conference call was rigged up to the stricken winner, who hopes to make a speedy recovery ahead of her trips to Luxembourg and the USA next year courtesy of sponsors Villeroy & Boch and Aramark.

A full report on the Acorn Scholarship 2005 will appear next week in Caterer.
