The winners of the hospitality and tourism industry's first Business Excellence Awards were announced on Monday (22 November) by Tourism Minister Richard Caborn

at Claridge's in London. First prize went to Hand Picked Hotels, the 14-strong country house hotel chain, for its innovative customer service and management initiatives. London's Royal Garden hotel's employee feedback system won second place, and TLH Leisure Resort in Devon came third for its people action plan. The Highly Commended categories went to the Pomme d'Or hotel, Jersey, and the Lebberston Touring Park in Yorkshire. The awards, which reward outstanding business achievement, were launched this year by the Best Practice Forum in conjunction with the Savoy Educational Trust and the Caterer Group.
