Job worries keep hospitality workers awake at night

(06 January 2005 11:28)

Working in the hospitality sector can be a real nightmare, according to a survey.

More than a quarter of the 1,000 hospitality workers polled – 26% - said they woke up in the night worrying about their jobs, the study by training organisation Foundation Degrees has reported.

Just as worrying, one in eight – 13% - said they never managed to unwind from work and that it was always on their mind.

Nearly two thirds – 62% - said it took them more than an hour each day to unwind from the stresses of their workplace.

Nearly half – 41% - said they took their woes out on friends and family, with 19% admitting that work had been the cause of serious family arguments.

Two-thirds of those polled also said they were currently unhappy at work, with one in five saying they were looking to move jobs in the New Year.
