Cleaning bill fraud campaign continues

Unicorn Trading, the mythical company behind the nationwide dry-cleaning scam exposed by Caterer, is still targeting restaurants throughout the country.

Another nine restaurants have revealed that they have been targeted. David Everitt-Matthias, of Le Champignon Sauvage in Cheltenham, was "outraged, yet amused" by the incident. "I want to know what the police are doing about this," he said.

"The con man has obviously done no research. We are a small restaurant and know everything that goes on within it. We just followed our policy and called him straight away."

Annie Schwab, of Winteringham Fields in Winteringham, Lincolnshire, spoke to the con man to check out his claim. "He said he had been to the restaurant when we had actually been closed - and then claimed he might have got the wrong restaurant."

All seven London outlets owned by A-Z Restaurants, including Zafferano and L'Oranger, also received demands from a man claiming £17.99 for his dry cleaning.
