Teenagers want to emulate star chefs(08 March 2005 00:00)More than three-quarters of today's teenagers are willing to work weekends to get ahead in the hospitality industry, according to recruitment website Caterer.com.
A job as a chef was the goal for a third of boys and just over a quarter of girls questioned. Nearly half (44%) fancied a career as a hotel manager. The survey also found that 69% of youngsters wanted to have jobs that involved working with the public and more than 25% dreaded being stuck in front of a computer all day. Article continues below
Nick Gourley, sales director at Blue Arrow Catering, said the results of the survey were encouraging. "I think teenagers are eating out more and more with family and friends, so the fact they are now thinking about hospitality when it comes to choosing a career isn't surprising." by Chris Druce
