Industry initiatives to improve working practices

Best Practice Forum
A BHA initiative designed to improve the way chain restaurants and other food service operations can introduce better working practices into their businesses. The forum aims to help businesses improve profit through productivity in a three-step process: benchmarking existing performance and creating an action plan with help from a business coach; one-to-one business improvement sessions; and best practice workshops gaining recognition as a Best Practice employer.

People 1st
A new Government-backed body that was granted Sector Skills Council status in May 2004, with the statutory remit of representing the hospitality sector on skills issues. Its priority is to build partnerships with Government, training and funding bodies, employers and employees groups and to work with business to drive productivity through skills development.

Springboard UK
Springboard UK is a national organisation that provides a range of educational tools and career support information, work experience placements and skills development programmes to communicate careers opportunities in the hospitality sector.

Hospitality Skills Academy
A new alliance of the hospitality industry's professional craft associations, established under the aegis of the BHA. Aims to increase the quantity and quality of practical skills training in the industry by bringing together several bodies:

Academy of Culinary Arts
Amicale Internationale Chef de Reception
Craft Guild of Chefs
Hallporters Association
United Kingdom Bartenders Association
