Hospitality luminaries top vocational rich list(22 June 2005 11:45)Eight hospitality luminaries made this year’s City and Guilds Vocational Rich List, with a combined wealth of £846m. The list ranks more than 30 of the nation’s top millionaires who earned their fortune from craft skills, typically leant through vocational qualifications and apprenticeships Leisure magnate Trevor Hemmings, a major shareholder in Scottish & Newcastle and owner of the Blackpool Tower, was third on the list with £100m. While Lak and Kamal Basran, owners of Authentic Indian Foods, placed 23 with £25m. Celebrity chefs were well represented, with Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay worth £20m each in joint 25th place, and Gary Rhodes at 31 with a fortune of £6m. Charan Gill, the owner of independent Indian restaurant chain Harlequin Leisure, ranked 27 with £15m. Article continues below
The position was shared by Robyn and Tim Jones of contract caterer Charlton House and Saltire Taverns owner Billy Lowe.
